授業の目的・達成目標

【Subject Description】 

This course emphasizes communicative evaluation and analysis. The overall goal of the course is to improve student ability to understand and produce extended discourse in English, especially in reading and writing contexts. Academic English vocabulary, recognizing and summarizing key points, critical thinking skills, and logical argumentation based on examples and evidence will be emphasized. 

【Objectives】 

Students will 

・acquire greater skills in reading articles in English and knowledge about a variety of current topics, 

・enlarge their academic vocabulary and improve their ability to understand the grammatical structure of sentences and paragraphs, and 

・gain experience in writing their opinion on current topics.

Week: 15: Film, 3rd quiz on all chapters, turn in essays

成績評価の方法

1st quiz 20%, 2nd quiz 25%, 3rd quiz 25%, Essay 20%, Extensive Reading 10%.

成績評価の基準
秀　 達成目標を超えた成果を上げている　100点～90点
優　 達成目標に十分達している　　　　　89点～80点
良　 達成目標に達している　　　　　　　79点～70点
可　 達成目標に概ね達している　　　　　69点～60点
不可 達成目標に達していない　　　　　　59点以下

The grading system will be explained in class. Based on a maximum score of 100, grades will be awarded as follows: S (Excellent) 90 - 100 A (Very good) 80-90 B (Good) 70-80 C (Pass) 60-70 D (Fail) Below 60.

Preview: Preparation of textbook and other learning materials (120 minutes) 

Review: Understand classroom lecture and explanations; and work on assigned tasks (reports, presentations, quizzes, etc.) (120 minutes)

This class is fundamentally a reading course. Students hoping to receive high marks will be expected to thoroughly read and understand the textbook and read over 60,000 words outside of class (i.e., the extensive reading).
