This course emphasizes communicative evaluation and analysis. The overall goal of the course is to improve student ability to understand and produce extended discourse in English, especially in reading and writing contexts. Moreover, To understand the techniques and knowledge of academic oral presentations and improve presentation skills. Academic English vocabulary, recognizing and summarizing key points, critical thinking skills, and logical argumentation based on examples and evidence will be emphasized.

・acquire greater skills in reading articles in English and knowledge about a variety of current topics

・enlarge their academic vocabulary and improve their ability to understand the grammatical structure of sentences and paragraphs

・gain experience in writing opinions on current topics

・acquire skills in introducing and summarizing oral presentations

Week 1: Introduction and Assessment

Week 2: Reading the article "Global Warming." Learning new vocabulary.

Week 3: Discussing the contents of the article "Global Warming."       

Week 4: Giving a short speech about global warming. Day 1

Week 5: Summarizing the article "Global Warming."

Week 6: Giving a short speech about global warming. Day 2 

Week 7: Reading an article "Globalization." Learning new vocabulary.

Week 8: Discussing the contents of the article "Globalization."  Summarizing the article "Globalization."

Week 9:   Giving a short speech about globalization. Day 1

Week 10: Finding relevant online literature and practicing summarizing. 

Week 11: Learning and practicing how to start an introduction to a presentation.

Week 12: Practicing how to start an introduction to a presentation.

Week 13: Presenting the introduction part of a presentation.

Week 14: Presentation preparation

Week 15: Presentation preparation

*The syllabus may vary in response to class progress and other circumstances.

Student will be evaluated according to scores of the final oral presentation exam (60%), quizzes (10%),  and activity in class (30%).

Pre-learning: Study textbooks and other materials, and work on pre-learning assignments (120 minutes)

Post-class learning: Understand the lectures and explanations given in class, and work on post-class assignments (reports, presentations, quizzes, etc.) (120 minutes)
